Within Fonglin Town of Hualian, there live two expert stone sculptors, the shrivel-footed Ah-Hsiung, who was once a master craftsman of time pieces, and Ah-Kuen, also known as the machine man, who has been implanted with an artificial heart valve. Through perseverance and dedication, they sculpture on unexceptional stones and thus infuse special values to their lives. Ah-Kuen is not only the cutter for cornerstones, but also donated his land to allow 50 years of free use for everyone. Moreover, through the Corner Stone Development Foundation established by Pastor Hsu Chien-Cheng, they have successfully assisted in reconnecting those withering souls out in the forgotten corners back again with the mainstream society. At present, Pastor Hsu is setting up the Fuh Ting Aboriginal Development Center in Caopi Tribe of Fonglin, Hualian, so that mature footsteps can be treaded in facing daily trials. It is hoped that more physically challenged aboriginals and the Amis culture can turn a new page here.
